ABOUT

Trees Heil (1993, The Netherlands) makes photos, short videos and performances. The works show temporarily constructed situations in which spaces, people and their behaviors are given a new poetic context. By using materials such as plaster, jute, hair and paint, the people who are photographed are transformed into different shapes. Heil examines the fluidity of man and themes such as identity and intimacy are explored. Heil received her bachelor’s degree from the Royal Academy of Art (The Hague, NL). In 2023 she received a Young Talent Working Grant from the Mondiaan Fund. In 2024 she received the Artist Project from the Mondriaan Fund.

Her work has been shown in Het Hem, Zaandam (NL), Museum Ijsselstein, Ijsselstijn (NL), Frascati Theater, Amsterdam (NL), W139, Amsterdam (NL), Marres (Maastricht, NL), Kunstliefde, Utrecht (NL), Ruis, Nijmegen (NL), Onboards Biennale, Antwerp (BE), SecondRoom Antwerp (BE), WORM, Rotterdam (NL).

In addition to her autonomous works Heil also works in commission especially within the field of fashion photography. She has shot fashion editorials for magazines including King Kong Magazine (UK), Sensitive Content Magazine (USA) and BOOT magazine (ENG) GRIND magazine (JP) and recently shot her first campaign for fashion brand Camiel Fortgens.
